Nameservers and transfers

When you link a domain, it stays at your current registrar, but its DNS moves to greneIT. To complete the move, change the domain’s nameservers at your registrar.

  1. Open the domain from Domains and click the Nameservers tab.
  2. Copy the nameservers listed. There are usually two.
  3. Sign in to your registrar’s control panel, find the nameserver or DNS settings for the domain, and replace the existing nameservers with the ones you copied.
  4. Back in the portal, click Refresh status now and then. Changes usually take effect within a few hours, but can take up to 48 hours.

The Nameservers tab of a domain

If the tab says nameservers will appear after the Cloudflare zone is created, wait a minute and click Refresh status.

Transfers between registrars normally take 5 to 7 days.

  • If the auth code was wrong or has expired, a Continue transfer card appears on the Overview tab. Get a new code from your old registrar, enter it in Auth code and click Submit auth code.
  • Watch for an email from your old registrar asking you to approve the transfer. Approving it finishes the transfer sooner.
  • For registered and transferred domains, the Nameservers tab shows the nameservers that must be active before the transfer can finish.

Once the transfer is complete, the domain’s status changes to active and the Expires date moves forward by a year.
