DNS records
DNS records tell the internet where to find your website, where to deliver your email and how to verify your domain with other services.
Open the domain from Domains and click the DNS tab. The Records table is on the left and the Add record form is on the right.

Add a record
Section titled “Add a record”- Choose the Type. See the table below.
- Enter the Name. Use
@for the domain itself, or a word such aswwworshopfor a subdomain. - Enter the Content: the IP address, hostname or text value the other service gave you.
- For MX records, set the Priority. Lower numbers are tried first, and the default is
10. - Leave TTL on Auto unless you’ve been told otherwise.
- For A, AAAA and CNAME records, choose whether the record is Proxied. Proxied traffic goes through Cloudflare’s protection and cache. Turn it off only for services that need a direct connection, such as some mail or VPN servers.
- Click Add record.
| Type | Used for |
|---|---|
| A | Points a name at an IPv4 address, for example 203.0.113.10. |
| AAAA | Points a name at an IPv6 address. |
| CNAME | Points a name at another hostname. |
| MX | Says which server receives email for the domain. |
| TXT | Verification codes and email security records (SPF, DKIM, DMARC). |
| NS | Hands a subdomain to other nameservers. |
| SRV | Locates specific services, such as calling or chat apps. |
| CAA | Restricts which certificate authorities can issue SSL certificates. |
Edit or delete a record
Section titled “Edit or delete a record”- Click the pencil icon on a record, change the values and click Save record. You can’t change the type of an existing record. Delete it and add a new one instead.
- Click the bin icon to delete a record, then confirm.
Proxy status
Section titled “Proxy status”In the records table, a cloud icon means Proxied. DNS only means the record is not proxied. A warning icon means the record could be proxied but isn’t, so it isn’t getting Cloudflare protection.
